Tuition fees

Non-state university: fees are fixed by the university itself and vary by programme; they are substantially higher than at state universities, but the university runs its own merit- and need-based scholarships and fee reductions, so check the financial aid pages alongside the fee schedule.

Campus and city

A single modern campus in the Porta Lodovica and Sarfatti area south of Milan's centre, with contemporary buildings, a library, sports facilities and student residences nearby. Milan is Italy's business and finance capital, expensive but full of internship and graduate opportunities.

Housing

Bocconi runs its own student residences on and near campus and allocates places through an annual application, with priority for scholarship holders; private rents in Milan are the highest in Italy, so students without a residence place should start early.

Overview

Bocconi is Italy’s best-known non-state university and the reference point in the country for economics, management, finance and, more recently, data science and law. It is private in the Italian sense, meaning it is a recognised university that sets its own fees rather than following the state income-based system, and those fees are substantially higher than at a state institution. In return it offers small classes, an almost entirely English-taught catalogue, structured career services and a graduate network that is strong in banking, consulting and corporate management.

Admission is selective. International applicants are assessed on academic record, an admissions test or accepted equivalent, and motivation, with several rounds through the year. The university offers merit- and need-based scholarships and fee reductions, some of which cover full tuition and accommodation for international students, so we always tell applicants to study the financial aid rules as carefully as the admission requirements.

The campus is a compact, modern site south of Milan’s centre, with a recent extension that includes a library, sports centre and residences, and the student body is highly international at both bachelor’s and master’s level. Milan’s business community is close at hand, and internships are a built-in part of many programmes. The culture is competitive and career-focused, which suits some students well and others less so.

Who it suits

Bocconi suits ambitious students with strong grades who want a career in finance, consulting, management, economics or business-related data science, who are comfortable in a competitive international environment, and who either have the budget for non-state fees or a realistic chance of a scholarship. It is not a good fit for applicants who want a broad or low-cost education, or who are primarily interested in science or engineering.

What to check before applying

  • Study the fee schedule and the scholarship and fee-reduction rules before applying.
  • Check the admissions test requirements and the dates of each application round.
  • Apply for a Bocconi residence place at the same time as admission.
  • Prepare a strong academic transcript and English certificate at the level the programme requires.
  • Compare total costs honestly with a state university in Milan before committing.
